What Is A Setting Powder?<\/h2>\n

A setting powder pretty much does what it says. It helps to “set” your makeup and it can help to reduce shine. It will help liquid foundations or cream blushes to last longer throughout the day.<\/p>\n

And if you are anything like me and don’t really like the dewy look, it will help to matte that out too.<\/p>\n

It can be translucent or it can have a slight color to it that will match your skin tone. It is not as heavy like a foundation and is not meant to have coverage, just helps to set your makeup in place.<\/p>\n

Why Make My Own Setting Powder?<\/h2>\n

You may be wondering why should I make my own setting powder? Great question!<\/p>\n

First<\/strong> of all it is SUPER cost effective. Some setting powders are pretty pricey and they couldn’t be easier to make.<\/p>\n

Second<\/strong> is that it is CLEAN! You can literally eat the ingredients that it is made up of. There are no chemicals or preservatives, making it safe to use daily or when needed.<\/p>\n

Third<\/strong> is that it is SIMPLE. Sometimes we just need a quick morning routine and don’t want to do a full face of makeup. This is perfect to take away shine and throw on a little mascara for a minimal fix. <\/p>\n

What Will I Need To Make My Own Setting Powder?<\/h2>\n

Making your own setting powder is easier than you may think and will only take about 10 minutes, tops. I started making mine about a year ago because honestly, I was too cheap to order more thinking there had to be a cheaper way. I love it and I’ll never go back. <\/p>\n

Arrowroot Powder<\/a><\/strong>
\nCacao Powder<\/strong><\/a> (optional)
\nLavender Essential Oil<\/strong><\/a> (optional though highly recommended)
\nGlass Bowl<\/strong><\/a>
\nSmall Whisk<\/a> or Fork<\/strong>
\nStorage Container<\/strong><\/a> – I like these airtight containers or small mason jars are great too!<\/p>\n

Arrowroot Powder<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Arrowroot powder is a fine white powder that is similar to a cornstarch. You can use it as a thickening agent in foods. Arrowroot is a tropical tuber that is native to Indonesia. <\/p>\n

It has a very smooth silky texture and is completely natural. Arrowroot powder is a natural humectant, which means that is attracts and retains moisture. It is perfect for a setting powder because it is gentle to the skin and absorbs oils while leaving a natural matte finish. It can also help to reduce irritation and redness.<\/p>\n

Cacao Powder<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Not to be confused with cocoa powder with sugar added to it. Cacao Powder is perfect if you have a darker complexion and need to tint your setting powder. It is also high in flavonoids and antioxidants which can help protect and repair skin. This also can help sooth redness and blemishes.<\/p>\n

You will just add a pinch at a time until you reach your desired color. <\/p>\n

Lavender Essential Oil<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This is one of my favorite essential oils for skin. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to your setting powder will add extra benefits to your skin. It is antifungal, anti-inflammatory and can help combat excess oil.<\/p>\n

Lavender essential oil is a great option for those combating skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, and scarring. <\/p>\n

How to make this All Natural DIY Setting Powder<\/h2>\n

So making this setting powder doesn’t require an exact recipe as it is all a personal preference and will depend on your skin tone.<\/p>\n

For example, you can just use arrowroot powder with the lavender essential oil for a setting powder or if you need to adjust to match your skin tone, you can add in a little cacao powder.<\/p>\n

Here is a basic break down to get you started.<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

1\/8 cup arrowroot powder<\/p>\n

1\/2 tsp cacao powder (adjust based on your preference for your skin tone)<\/p>\n

2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil<\/p>\n

Instructions:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

1. Add the arrowroot powder to a small bowl.<\/p>\n

2. Mix in the cacao powder, if used, until you reach your desired color. If you are not using cacao powder, just skip this step.<\/p>\n

3. Add in your lavender essential oil and mix in well. <\/p>\n

4. Add to your storage container and you are ready to use.<\/p>\n

How Do I Use This Setting Powder?<\/h2>\n

Setting Powder is meant to be used after your face makeup has been applied. So, foundation, blush, bronzer, anything that you use on your face, you will use it first. The setting powder should be your last step.<\/p>\n

It is best to press the setting powder into the skin. If you try to brush on too much you can disrupt your foundation or leave streaks.<\/p>\n
