Why make my own DIY Natural Teething Balm?

Teething Balm in glass jar with Copaiba and Clove essential oil with a green plant

We want simple for our babies. They don’t need complex and their little bodies aren’t ready to process synthetics. Did you know the main ingredients in one of the popular teething tablets can cause gastrointestinal issues, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain? It’s just not necessary for our little ones.

Pain relievers like ibuprofen or Tylenol can cause all kinds of issues on their liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal track and immune system.

They can go from just having a low grade fever and being a little fussy from teething to having a full on virus because of the side effects of the things listed above depleting their immune support.

God designed these little ones perfect and teething is part of the process. We don’t have to use harsh synthetic ingredients though to bring relief to them.

I’m all about keeping it simple and using things that support their bodies and set them up for future success!

I have a list of other natural teething remedies that we have used here. Below though, is my favorite teething balm that we have used on all of our kiddos with amazing success! Plants are AMAZING!

About the ingredients:

Organic Cold Pressed Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can help to reduce inflammation and is antibacterial and antifungal. It is literally a food which is why I love using it for the base to this and has amazing health benefits as well.

Copaiba Essential Oil

Copaiba essential oil has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anesthetic properties to it. We use this similar to how you would use a pain reducer.

Clove Essential Oil

Clove essential oil has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in this for its numbing properties as well. It is also a spicy oil which is why you only need a drop or two in this DIY. This is what makes it so effective.

How do I use this DIY Natural Teething Balm?

You will want to wash your hands and dry well. Take your finger and scoop out a small amount, just enough to cover the pad of your finger.

Apply directly to babies gums.

Repeat as needed. This is also one that I would use regardless of symptoms before bed to make sure baby was comfortable.

These are the oils our family has used for years (and that we know are safe for the uses mentioned above).

I am not a doctor. I am just a Mama who loves finding natural options for her family. My education on oils is how our family has used these over the years and the benefits we have seen. You are the gatekeeper of your home and know your family so please keep that in mind while following us on this journey. Also, when speaking about essential oils, we use Young Living in our family and have for over seven years. These are the oils that I have researched and feel comfortable with for our family. Not all oils are created equal.
